You can appreciate your life and still wish there were more in it that you chose for yourself.
Perhaps work is changing or retirement is getting closer. The children need you differently. A familiar role has ended, or responsibilities still take up more time than you expected.
You’re much quicker to answer “What needs doing?” than “What would I enjoy?”
An interest keeps coming to mind, but you haven’t done anything with it.
Reading, trying something creative or following an interest feels like something you’ll get to once everything else is done.
You’d like something to change, but “something” is about as specific as you’ve managed
You may even feel excited about what comes next. You’d just like a better starting point than being told to find your passion.
When everyone else’s needs are clear and your own are harder to name, theirs tend to get the attention.
So the thing you’re curious about stays an idea. And when a bit of time does open up, whether that’s fewer work hours, a quieter house or a free Saturday, the usual things move in first. What you want gets another turn at the bottom of the list.
You don’t have to overhaul your life to interrupt that pattern. You just need to be clear enough about what you want that it can hold its place.
Imagine being able to say, “This is what I want to make room for—and here’s how I’m going to begin.”
Then the next time someone asks what you’re doing with yourself these days, you’ll have an answer you actually chose.
A pretty journal gives you blank pages and good intentions. This gives you a way in, and a way to bring together what you find.
Within the first few pages, you’ll circle where your time and attention actually go: family, work, caregiving, other people’s needs, your own interests, rest, fun. Then you’ll ask whether anything is taking up more space, or less, than you’d like. That page alone is often surprisingly revealing.
From there, the workbook takes you through the six connected parts of the MEAGAIN Method™. Each part looks at your life from a different angle, with specific questions, prompts and choices, so you’re never left staring at a blank page wondering where to start.
At the end of each section, you capture the one thought you most want to remember.
Then you bring those six thoughts together, see what stands out, and circle the one that matters most right now. That becomes your Personal Reconnection Map: what you’ve discovered about yourself, what you want to carry forward, why it matters, and one small way to begin.
A journal gives you somewhere to think. This gives your thinking somewhere to land.

I’m Karen, founder of Elevate Myself.
After being widowed with two young children, I spent years doing what needed to be done. As they approached adulthood, I imagined a less demanding stage ahead, with more time, money and room for myself.
Life didn’t unfold so neatly.
It made me confront an assumption I’d carried for years: that having more of my own life required everyone else to need less from me first.
Between studying retirement, psychology and coaching, working with people in HR and business for more than 35 years, and living a life that hadn’t followed the plan, I came to see things differently from the usual “reinvent yourself” message. You don’t have to come first for your needs to count. Life doesn’t have to clear a space for you before you’re allowed to occupy some of it. And you don’t need a new identity or an extraordinary second act.
Sometimes you just need a practical way to put yourself back into consideration, starting from the life you’re actually living.
That’s what this workbook is for. You bring the knowledge of your life. I bring a structure to help you work with it.

There’s no daily writing routine to keep up with, and no falling behind if life gets busy. You can work through a section, pause and come back when you’re ready.
Each section ends with one thought you want to remember, giving you a useful place to pick up again. The “Before You Begin” audio helps you get started, and the six sections build towards your Personal Reconnection Map—so you know what you’re working towards.
You don’t have to finish it all in one burst. There’s room to take your time.
You don’t need to clear a weekend or turn it into another project. As a rough guide, allow around 15–30 minutes per section; some may take a little longer (or shorter).
Try a few pages over a morning coffee or on a quiet evening, and stop when you’ve had enough. You might work through it over a weekend or spread it across several weeks.
Choose a pace that suits you.
Then you’re exactly who this workbook is for. You don’t need clarity or a tidy plan before you begin—that’s what you’re here to explore.
The questions and activities give you something to respond to, so you’re not staring at a blank page trying to summon a life goal. Some answers will come more easily than others. Leave a question blank and return to it if you need to.
Yes. You might be curious, content but ready to explore, or excited about a changing stage of life. The workbook helps you consider what you’d like more of now.
You don’t need everyone else to need less from you before you can make room for yourself. This workbook helps you explore what you want within the life you actually have—including the responsibilities that aren’t going anywhere.
You could. The value of this workbook is the structure of the MEAGAIN Method™: connected reflections that help you notice what matters, bring your thoughts together in your Personal Reconnection Map, and choose one small way to begin.
No. Brief answers are welcome, and the visual touches are optional. You’re using the pages to understand yourself, not producing something for someone else to assess.
No. You’ll receive a printable digital PDF and access to the audio guide. Nothing is shipped. I recommend printing it out: writing by hand, circling and doodling on paper tends to slow you down in a good way.
The workbook is for your personal use and may not be shared or redistributed.
